Greek music have been around since the start of ancient Greece. The Greece music was an important part of their own theaters. Their songs would often be sang for entertainment, celebrations and spiritual seasons. Instruments included the double-reed Aulos and the plucked string instrument, the lyre. Greek music also had a great influence to the Greek educations. It was important that boys that are six years old have to learn music. Greek music categories is separated in to 3 different regions, Thrace, Epirus and Macedonia. Thrace is a piece of land that stretches over the southern part of Bulgaria, North Eastern Greece and Turkey. It is said the music of Thrace is stretch back to the legend of Orpheus the legendary singer. Thrace music has a swift tempo that suit traditional dances of Thrace people. Thrace's music are mostly dance supporting songs and their instrument include a type of bagpipe that is called Gaida. The Thrace is more of a dancing community so there are many type of dances but most of them are fast dances. One of Greece's original instruments are lyres. For a bit of history the lyre was originally created by the god Hermes as a gift to the god Apollo. A classical lyre has a hollow body or sound-chest (also known as sound box or resonator). Extending from this sound-chest are two raised arms, which are sometimes hollow, and are curved both outward and forward. They are connected near the top by a crossbar or yoke. An additional crossbar, fixed to the sound-chest, makes the bridge which transmits the vibrations of the strings. Sample music
